GOLD
For Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit
2008, Detroit

We designed these invitations for a benefit at the Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit called "Gold". We were trying to come up with some way to reproduce just gold-as-pure-ornament without it being gold-something (like a picture of a gold coin, or a gold ring, or gold text). Finally Danielle met with a local Detroit printer who agreed to do some experiments for us making foil stamps with the backs of old dies. He had a lot of old dies stored up and was open to using them to make impressions even though the impressions were sometimes a bit rough. He ended up using 6 different dies. We made some postcard size and letter-sized versions that were folded down to go through the mail. Our budget went toward getting the maximum amount of gold on each card.
